Designers, editors, journalists, bloggers, and other members of the fashion elite, gathered to celebrate African Fashion International’s return of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Cape Town 2017 at MESH Club in February 2017.

The launch coincided with AFI’s 10-year anniversary, and allowed guests a sneak peek into key collections set to showcase at Fashion Week with a mini fashion show.

In a speech to the invited guests, Chairperson and Founder of AFI, Dr. Precious Moloi-Motsepe brought in the nostalgic element of the evening, as she shared her fondest moments of the last decade of AFI.

As one of her special moments, she recalls the “turning point” of the company when the title-sponsor, Mercedes-Benz, came on board to partner with AFI, “Mercedes-Benz and AFI share many of the same values, especially the luxury of products that are beautifully designed and conceptualized, products that are touched by human hands with attention to detail.” The partnership has since placed AFI as a leader in propelling African fashion.

The fashion show, the highlight of the launch, was a enticing display of the latest pieces by David Tlale, Gavin Rajah, Orapeleng Modutle Style Avenue, and Khosi Nkosi, along with cashmere scarves from Trebene. Each outfit was redesigned in Calico, a demure preview of the more vibrant, colour-rich versions that wanderered down the runway in Camps Bay on the 23-25 March 2017.

Guests sipped, mingled and celebrated in their anticipation of the ultimate Fashion Week showcase.
